Eric Scherzer

Eric Scherzer is Executive Director of the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) and is a founding member of the CIR Education and Policy Initiative (PEI). He has over three decades experience in labor relations, occupational health education and workplace safety development, and holds an MPH in Community Health Education from the Hunter College School of Public Health.
Mr. Scherzer began his career in 1979 as a member of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union (OCAW), where he served as a local union official, benefits administrator, and international representative. He has sat on multiple advisory boards and regional industrial associations, and is the founder and former director of the New Jersey Occupational Health and Safety Committee (NJCOSH).
Since joining CIR as an Associate Director in 1998, Mr. Scherzer has supervised contract negotiations at newly organized hospitals, served as a trustee-liaison of the Benefit Plans, and overseen the organization’s continued growth. He has held teaching appointments at Rutgers University and Empire State College, and continues to sit on several executive, editorial and advisory committees.
